Artists League

Pastel is pure pigment, the same pigment used in all art media, such as oil paint or watercolor paint, the only difference being the binder used to hold the pigment together into a usable form. Pastel uses the minimum amount of binder. When properly framed, it is the most permanent of all mediums. Pastel has no liquid binder that may cause the surface to darken, fade, yellow, crack or blister with time. No other medium has the power of color or stability of pastel, holding its color with the passage of time. Pastel artists understand the power of their medium and use it to full advantage.
